John 6:35: Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
In John 6:5-14, Jesus miraculously fed about five thousand men (verse 10) with “five barley loaves and two fish” (verse 9), and had twelve baskets of fragments left over after all had eaten (verse 13).
Following another miracle, this time walking on the sea, Jesus was sought after by some people wanting to know how He got to Capernaum without a boat (verses 24-25).
Jesus responded in verses 26-27, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled. Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed Him.”
While physical food is needful, Jesus provides something even greater… spiritual nourishment. Jesus satisfies eternally. He offers food for our souls.
As the bread of life, Jesus is the One in whom we can have permanent fulfillment and satisfaction.
Mankind looks a number of places to find the everlasting nourishment that our soul longs for. Jesus is the answer.
