Acts 22:16: And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Ananias was sent by Jesus to tell Saul of Tarsus what needed to be done to make his life right. In part of his plea to Saul, Ananias used the phrase “now why tarriest thou?” This phrase implies a sense of urgency.

Such a sense of urgency is appropriate when we consider that we have no guarantee of tomorrow. Our time on earth is relatively fleeting. Notice James 4:14: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Furthermore, Christ’s return could be at any time. 2 Peter 3:10 says, “the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

For this and other reasons, we must urgently pursue whatever is necessary to be right with God.

If you are not right with God, do not delay. Won’t you make your life right with Him now?
